Principal Boston school international Alexander Bennet

Alexander Bennett

Head of School

As the new Head of School to BSI, from the beginning of the present academic year 2022-2023, I want to formally introduce myself to our community. It is important for me to let you know who I am, my work experience, my philosophy, and above all my passion for education, in regard to working with children and their families in an international environment. To bring you up to date, I have been heavily involved in the international school circuit for over 30 years.

I began my career at Taipei American School, Taiwan, as a first grade teacher. This experience had such a positive impact on my life and career ambitions that I continued with later teaching positions in Hawaii and the Philippines. Meanwhile, I continued my studies and obtained a Master’s degree in Teaching and Curriculum from Michigan State University, soon after I also received a degree in Education Administration (K-12) from Western Washington University.

Following these events, I began my career in school administration as principal at the American School of Asunción, Paraguay, The American School of Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela, and the Columbus School in Medellin, Colombia. Afterwards I stepped into Head of School Positions at the International School of Panama, Panama, Myanmar International School, Myanmar, and the International School Eastern Seaboard, Thailand.

As for my philosophy pertaining to school and education: I believe that as educators in the midst of a modern and competitive world, it is our responsibility to ensure a school setting that delivers a strong academic curriculum. Providing a variety of experiences where kids can explore, investigate, and participate in things that tap into their strengths, interests, and values. My focus, serving as the new Head of School here at BSI, is to continue and maintain our current leadership programs, as well as bring in new real-world innovative and creative opportunities for students all the way from PK through 12th grade.

BSI will continue to offer to all of its students the PYP, MYP, and DP IB Program. This inquiry based approach allows each student to progress along their learning journey and to engage in experiences which are both personalized and appropriately challenging. As an IB World School, we have a firm belief that all students can thrive in any environment. We believe in having accessibility to various resources that will enhance learning for all, and in providing differentiated instructions. I would like to finish this letter by saying that we are proud to be an inclusive school, in which our students embody the statement of the IB mission…

“Compassionate lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.”
